An ‘eagle’s nest’ village!

Located on the eastern side of the Massif du Grand Renaud, the village overlooks the Bourg d’Oisans plain and offers an outstanding panoramic view of the Grandes Rousses, Romanche valley and Vénéon valley.
In summer, life is laid-back, with its little restaurant, festive events and traditions. Linked to Villard-Reymond by a track that overlooks the Vallée de la Romanche, visitors can enjoy a hike to explore two picturesque Oisans villages.

Great (wild) outdoors

The untamed surrounding areas are perfect for a wide range of outdoor activities, especially hiking, with the Chemin des Cascades, the family hike of Boucle des Croix and the more challenging Vallon du Rochail, which offers a superb panoramic view point over the Écrins.
For cyclists, the road up to Villard Notre-Dame is to be climbed at least once in a lifetime, where it is suspended above a sheer drop and with dark tunnels. It’ll leave you with unforgettable memories.
In winter, icefall climbing can be enjoyed in the Cirque du Rochail. Ski touring is also available, departing from the village.

What to see and do

L'église de Villard-Notre-Dame

The village church

The church overlooks the village square and is visible from many parts of the Oisans region. Its architecture is understated and elegant, and the church has been renovated many times. The doorway is protected by a large awning and is the oldest part of the building, dating from between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century. It is also the only part of the church that has been identified as being from the medieval era, alongside a recently renovated small stained-glass window. The ceiling is quite unique, with its network of moulding and patterns that make up elegant panels. The statuette of St Anne is listed on the register for French historical heritage, and the unique pulpit was built from scrap metal. Please ask for the keys at the town hall if you would like to visit the church.
