Allemond, ITS lake, ITS gentle way of life

Allemond is a charming village, and the perfect base camp for exploring Oisans. This is why it’s worth a visit…

Allemond is in a valley, at an altitude of 713m. Its location is ideal for exploring the whole of Oisans. Cyclists can set off on the Col du Glandon and the Col de la Croix de Fer from here, and there is also a wide network of marked routes through the Grandes Rousses Massif and Belledonne Massif. All year round, there are free shuttle buses to take you up to the Mountain Biking trails and Ski slopes of Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine, via Vaujany, Oz en Oisans or Villard-Reculas.

Leisure activities at the foot of the mountains

A major reason to go to Allemond is that one of the 2 of Oisans’ watersports centres, is at the rockfill dam on Verney lake! Here, you can hire pedalo boats, go canoeing, windsurfing, hire an optimist boat or try out stand-up paddle. Or you can just bring a picnic and spend some quality time with family near the pontoons or the children’s play area. The warm and friendly atmosphere of the Parc des Tilleuls, dotted with 200-year-old trees, is the venue for the majority of summer events here. Nearby is a very accessible skatepark, tennis court, swimming pool, climbing wall and shuttle buses to go up into the mountains and try out the mountain biking descents. There is a wide range of hiking trails leaving from Allemond, some flat and accessible with a pushchair, and other more strenuous ones!

Verney Lake watersports centre – Allemond

Verney Lake has quite naturally taken its place in Eau d’Olle Valley, between the peaks of Belledonne and Grandes Rousses. This artificial reservoir was built between 1979 and 1984 by EDF (Electricité de France), and you would think that it had always been there… The cool waters, changing colours throughout the year, and its location at the crossroads of the valley’s 4 villages, make it the ideal place to relax and unwind.

HIKING

Randonnée vers le Lauvitel

Oisans is the land of hiking, and in Allemond you’ll find some natural treasures!

One of our favourites is the pretty Chazeau cabin in the middle of a clearing, filled with rhododendrons and blueberry bushes as far as the eye can see. We also recommend the crystal clear waters of Belledonne Lake, the ideal place to come and meditate or just relax and unwind.
We love going on a family walk to the peaceful Etang de Champeau pond and Cascade de Bâton waterfall, where you may even catch a glimpse of a chamois.
The hiking trails departing from the quiet and charming hamlet of Rivier, will lead you through a wild natural environment, where Alpine ibex roam along the Sentier des 7 Laux footpath.
