About : Villar d’Arene Icefall

The Icewaterfall is located in the heart of the National Park, all of the regulations inherent to the Ecrins National Park apply: www.ecrins-parcnational.fr/reglementation

8 to 10 lines can be installed.

Some are equipped with rope + quick link relays around trees (relays which sometimes need to be cleared from the ice); for other lengths it is up to you to install the relays. We therefore leave it to the climbers to equip their ascents. Access to the top of the tracks is via a handrail, going up to the left at the arrival of the zip line.

The longest lengths are 25m but it is better to take a 60 rope to be able to move away from the foot of the routes.

To access the Cascade you must:

Reserve a climbing slot and pay your financial contribution of €6 per person, the reservation page of this site.
Be in possession of liability insurance covering this activity.

Location supplement

The Villar d’Arène Waterfall is located on the banks of the Romanche between La Grave and the Col du Lautaret, on the road which leads to the hamlet of Arsine, towards the “Nordic” site.

A parking area is provided at the Bistrot du Moulin. From there head towards the river. The trail runs alongside the cross-country ski trails. We thank you in advance for taking care not to damage them by walking on the edge of the slopes.

To access the icewaterfall, you have to cross the Romanche via a zip line. There is a permanent pulley and a carabiner to attach your lanyard to. If you don't want to end up upside down, consider hanging your backpack on the same carabiner as your lanyard...
