The Rajon hut.
In an attempt to gain Oisans during the war, the Wehrmacht decided to send elite troops specialised in mountain combat, namely the Mountain infantry of the 157th Bavaria mountain division. In Alpe d'Huez, the wounded Resistance fighters being cared for in an improvised hospital were forced to flee. Dr Tissot organised a withdrawal to the Massif of the Grandes Rousses. The maquisards were on their own territory here and knowledge of the local area proved to be a decisive advantage. Their strength lay in sabotaging strategic points and then disappearing without trace. After four days of walking between 11 August and 15 August 1944, some of them on crutches and others on stretchers, the wounded and their carers arrived in the Rajon hut at an altitude of 2800 m, setting up a makeshift hospital. At the foot of the Dôme des Petites Rousses (2800m), next to the Lac de la Fare, the marooned fighters were saved, thanks to the advance of the Allies, who had landed in Provence, pushing the Germans back. They all survived.
