In the Middle Ages, the Oisans stretched from Lautaret to Livet and Gavet. It's a harsh land, but one with many assets. Archival documents illustrate life in this high country. In the Middle Ages, the Oisans was one of the richest mandements (districts) in the Dauphiné. The Dauphin took a particular interest in the region.
