About : Laterna Magica

At just 25 years of age, Théo Ould sees musical expression as a total art form, and explores all the possibilities of his instrument, the accordion, which he proudly defends: "When I entered the conservatory and held the instrument in my hands, it was as much the sound that fascinated me as the object itself, halfway between a typewriter and an extraterrestrial device: a machine for playing in every sense of the word...". The Laterna Magica program blends the Baroque music of Bach and Rameau with the melancholy melodies of Granados and Tchaikovsky, before moving on to the contemporary repertoire of Campo and Gubitsch...

"Served by an exceptional technique (a left hand of hallucinating suppleness, a phrasing of inexhaustible richness) [Théo Ould's interpretations] reveal a personality that expresses itself naturally in fantasy, in the fresh and enchanting sense of the term." Le Monde.

For this concert, Théo will be joined by cellist Lisa Strauss. They will perform a version of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt's Fratres that only they could have imagined... literally unheard-of!
