La Maison des Alpages invites you to discover its museum dedicated to pastoralism: a challenge for the future! There's also a permanent exhibition on the history of the village of Besse in the 20th century, a reading corner, a store and a selection of local produce.
About : Individual tours of museum
The museum invites you to discover pastoralism as it is practiced today, dispelling preconceived ideas by highlighting age-old know-how.
First, you'll discover what pastoralism is, then you'll learn about all the issues that require constant adaptation of the practice: global warming, predation, space sharing, and many others...
A visit to the museum will help you understand this activity, which is vital to the economy of our mountains and the life of our villages!
Through our permanent exhibition, you'll also discover the life of the Bessats. The village had up to 1000 inhabitants in the 19th century! Most of them were farmers, and had to adapt to a harsh mountain environment that was sometimes hostile to both man and beast.
A world dedicated to this era: stories, period photographs and press articles recount a village life that has not quite disappeared...
