Ice cimbing
Oisans, a country of mountains, water and steep-sided valleys, is the kingdom of ice falls: no fewer than 600 have been listed in Oisans.
They are located in 3 main areas : Alpe d’Huez, la Grave – la Meije and The Vallon du Diable near Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans.
Climbing an icefall in winter is a unique glacial experience that is both physically demanding and highly aesthetic. The climber changes worlds, according to the shape, lights and colours, creating a close, yet fleeting, relationship with the ice.
