Col, a village and resort
The village of Ornon is scattered along the slopes of the Vallée de la Lignarre.
Amidst the old, renovated mountain farms, the village has furnished accommodation and gites designed for a warm and friendly welcome. Whether you’re at the Taillefer site or the Col d’Ornon resort, you can enjoy simple, small-scale tourism.
Activities
In winter, this small resort is perfect for learning to ski away from the crowds, in a friendly, family atmosphere (the highest run starts at 2000 m). It also features cross-country skiing, with a lovely Nordic skiing area, together with snowshoeing on waymarked trails and ski touring.
In summer, you can explore the various hamlets of Ornon, go horse riding, orienteering, walk up to the Lac du Fourchu or even up to the top of the majestic Taillefer. Dog-sledging can be enjoyed in both winter and summer.
Station du Col d’Ornon
“A unique resort: lots of activities, even more tranquillity”
Le Col d’Ornon is THE family resort in Oisans. It has runs for all levels – perfect for everyone in the family. There’s even stuff for the less sporty, with lots of non-skiing activities going on at the resort. With its abundant nature, summer leisure activities can be enjoyed in lush, green scenery.
Plateau des lacs
The prairies on the Plateau du Traillefer span several kilometres and are home to many lakes. The moors, peatlands and rocky terrain in the area are so abundantly rich, that the Plateau has been awarded a Natura 2000 label. The Massif, sculpted by glaciers 12,000 years ago, makes for a wonderfully lake-studded landscape. The area’s humidity, acidity and coldness stopped the vegetable matter that creates peat from degrading during its accumulation. Get your trainers on: From La Grenonière, head up to the Plateau des Lacs (2.5 hours, 780 m difference in altitude) and if you still feel like it, continue up to the majestic Taillefer (+3 hours, +800 m).
La Bergerie de la Lignarre
Jimmy and Emilie, who settled in Ornon in 2008, raise around 60 ewes. They produce fresh and ripened cheese, yoghurts, fromage blanc as well as lamb meat. They raise their ewes in a sustainable manner (GMO-free feed). As a member of the Route des Savoir-Faire, the Bergerie is organising a tasting party to showcase its products, so book quickly!
