A land of mountains and water, Oisans offers anglers a fine choice of mountain lakes, rivers and mountain streams. Whether you enjoy spinning, fly or hook and line fishing, you will find happiness, tranquility… and fish.
With 6 valleys and a protected natural environment, especially right at the heart of Ecrins Park, Oisans is the perfect place for recreational fishing. Mountain lakes, rivers and mountain torrents are ideal for trying out all different fishing techniques such as toc (French fly fishing technique), lures or fly fishing, in an exceptional environment.
In Oisans, fishing is a magical moment in the great outdoors: silence, fresh air, blue sky, the colour of the stones and the grass, the soft whooshing sound of the water…
Which fish species can you expect to encounter in Oisans?
Mainly brown trout, rainbow trout, arctic char and brook trout.
Small stream…
The banks of the Rive, the peaceful river that crosses through Bourg-d’Oisans, are ideal for relaxing and the perfect spot to try your hand at fishing. This small river is in a quiet, shaded and rural setting, with a ‘no-kill’ policy, a modern version of fishing where you experience all the joys of fishing and then you release your catch back into the waters without hurting it. Make sure you respect the reserve area, so that the fish can also have some peace and quiet from time to time.
… or a big river
The Romanche, the main river that flows through Oisans, you’ll find a lot of big salmonids. This slightly more sporty version of fishing makes it easier to use your lures, in waters that can take you by surprise because each fishing spot along the Romanche is so different to the last. The sand banks or rocky areas are favourite spots with the locals. If you decide to go fishing on the banks of the Romanche, be careful because the waters can rise very quickly (dams upstream).
Lake with pristine waters…
If you are looking for a lake full of fish, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
At Lac du Lauvitel lake for example, mountain fishing is quite a sporty activity because you need to climb the 600m to get there. It is a real pleasure to go fishing in this superb setting!
But if you’re looking for a lake with turquoise-blue waters that doesn’t require any effort to reach, the Lac de Buclet lake is the perfect spot, especially if you’ve got your children with you.
