First of all, the sumptuous high alpine scenery and a topography that lends itself perfectly to the challenges cyclists crave. Uphill climbs, such as the famous 21 switchbacks to Alpe d’Huez, are steep and the many mountain passes are the ways into and out of Oisans. The names of these mountain passes are well known in cycling circles, including the Col du Glandon, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Galibier, Col du Lautaret and the Col d’Ornon.
In the summer, Oisans is alive with cycling events with firmly established reputations. During the Tour de France, the Alpe d’Huez stage is always a moments of high excitement. La Marmotte and the Alpe d’Huzes are also very intense sporting and human challenges.
