From 12 december 2021 to 23 april 2022
Pourchery is a charming little mountain hamlet, just 3 km from the village of Vaujany. It is a family-friendly resort with a range of leisure activities, and is the setting for your vast but cosy guest house. A free shuttle service will take you to Vaujany and the ski resort connected to Alpe d’Huez. This little resort has developed at the heart of the old village, while ensuring the perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Today, it has just as much to offer as the big resorts, thanks to a big indoor swimming pool and ice rink, bowling alley, indoor climbing wall, waymarked snowshoeing trail… As well as free activities including curling at the ice rink!
Your accommodation, Solneige chalet
At Solneige chalet, you can experience the traditional warm sense of hospitality of the mountains. Thérèse and Pieter settled into village life here very quickly thanks to their kind and caring nature, with which they renovated an ancient traditional farm, in very good taste. Over the years, they continue to ensure that the rooms offer the very best in comfort, one of which is a suite for 4 people, and they work hard to bring out the magical chalet atmosphere. The chalet is south facing with a clear view of the Lac du Verney. Just picture yourselves chatting around the fire in the beautiful, vaulted living area, or relaxing in the jacuzzi. You’ll find everything you need for quality time together. Everyone at their own pace, the grandparents are reading a book while the teenagers are having a late breakfast before going to build an igloo in the garden. The whole family will love staying at Solneige chalet so much that everyone will get together in their pyjamas in the evening for a game of cards before bed.

Calling all budding young mushers
Do your children dream of being a musher for a day? Then you can treat them to an unforgettable experience: a half-day outing to learn how to drive their very own sled, along a safe trail. In a fun area, with a specially-adapted sled and dogs that are known to be extra-friendly, the children will learn how to manage the dogs and the sled all by themselves, while the parents look on, filled with pride. The focus of the activity is the closeness they’ll feel with the dogs, and it will be the huskies, adopted by Barbara and Erwin from a shelter, who will be training the children, not the other way round. And don’t worry, the parents won’t get bored as they wait, they’ll be perfectly happy admiring the endearing pack.
Pétanque on ice
Otherwise known as curling! Fans of the Olympic Games will already have seen this discipline that is often called the ‘petanque of the great north’. Curling is a sport that is all about precision and strategy and it is played in teams of 4 people. The goal is to place the granite stone as close to the target area drawn out on the ice, known as the ‘house’, as possible. Divide your group into 2 teams and you’ll take it in turns throwing and sweeping. Don’t forget that it’s not the winning that counts, it’s the taking part!
What about the animals who are not in hibernation for the winter?
The marmot may have disappeared into hibernation, but the chamois don’t leave the mountains in winter. Quite the opposite actually, they come down to the edge of the forests to find food and so come very close to us. You’ll have the best chance of seeing them with the guide from the Espace Musée de Vaujany, who always manages to catch a glimpse of them on the slopes of the Aiguillettes. That’s why he meets visitors at Le Collet, equipped with binoculars to observe the chamois, deer and any other animal brave enough to face the cold winter. They are very fragile during this season and their survival is touch-and-go, so come and find out how the chamois manages to hold out until the spring.
Snowshoeing outing at dusk
When the sun starts to go down at the end of the day, the sky looks like it’s on fire. It is in winter that you’ll see the best sunsets in the mountains. Just as you’re leaving the Montfrais cable car with your guide to head up the slope and then into the forest, the last sunrays of the day stream through the branches and create a magical spectacle of light. The peaks are lit up in red and orange, the often untouched valley is covered with a layer of powder snow, and you might just be lucky enough to see a chamois passing by…
Explore Vaujany from one marker to the next
The whole family will enjoy an orienteering trail, whatever the age of the different generations! In following the ‘wildlife’ or ‘heritage’ trail, the adult or children’s version, the whole family will learn so much about Vaujany and the surrounding environment. You’ll see that the themes are extremely varied, including ‘the life of bygone days’, ‘school’, ‘the washhouses’, ‘extracting copper ore’, ‘life in the pastures’, ‘hydroelectricity’ or ‘wildlife’ with the mountain hare, the marmot, the Alpine ibex, etc. So make sure you’ve got the map, a warm woolly hat and you’re ready to go!
