Le tour des deux cascades

Le tour des deux cascades

To explore this rich and varied mountain, hike alongside the Vénéon, cross the little stone bridge and enjoy the cool air of the woods and the even cooler water of the waterfalls.

About : Le tour des deux cascades

This hike is perfect for a hot summer's day, as the path is mostly in the shade and it is a lot cooler walking close to the fast-flowing stream. Only the last section back up to the car park in Champhorent requires a final effort.

From the car park in Champhorent (1580m), follow signs to the Refuge de la Lavey. After about 20 minutes, cross over the Vénéon on the Pont des Rajas (1417m). The path then splits, so take the right-hand path, following signs to "Plan du Lac". You will already be able to enjoy the cool air coming off the water, as well as admiring the Cascade de la Muande waterfall, fed by the many glaciers in the Lavey valley. Carry on through the wood for around 40 minutes when you will see a fork to the right, leading to a footbridge over the Vénéon. You will be crossing this on the way back, but the Cascade de la Mariande waterfall is only a 10-minute walk away (still following signs to "Plan du Lac"). At the waterfall, be very careful if you are walking with children and then retrace your steps and turn left to cross the river., You are now on the path leading to the hamlet of Le Clot d'Outre. After a 15-minute climb, the path forks again. Take the right hand path which will bring you back to the car park in Champhorent in 45 minutes.
