At the heart of pastures under the watchful eye of cows enjoying fresh grass and the curious marmots, come and admire the richness of alpine flowers ...
A corner of paradise for young and oldest!
Starting point: Hamlet of Pied du Col
Elevation gain: 400 m
Duration round trip : 3h
Distance: 3,5 km
The path starts off on the famous GR 54 path (Tour de l’Oisans), and then
climbs up steadily to pass the Anna Falque’s step. Here is the start of the Villar d’Arène mountain pasture, called « Plan de l’Alpe », where flocks of sheep come to graze every summer. The refuge enjoys an unrestricted view on
Les Agneaux, La Chamoissière or the Col d’Arsine. The start is also possible from the Col du Lautaret, on the track called « Sentier des crevasses », a sometimes vertiginous path sculpted out of the schist rocks face, accompanied with ecology information signs. From this path, the view over La Meije and its glaciers is magnificent! From left to right: the Pointe Nérot (3538m), on which the Glacier du Fauteuil is suspended, the Pic Gaspard (3881m), the Glacier du Lautaret in the middle, La Meije (the Pic Oriental,
3891m, the Doigt de Dieu, 3973m, and the Grand Pic, 3982m), the Glacier de l’Homme and the Trois Hommes (2933m).
the Anna Falque’s step, named so after the legend of a young girl who went down for dancing in Villar d'Arene and failed to return after an unfortunate encounter with the devil…
