ROUTE
Park in the car park just below the village of La Berarde and take the path off to the left after Notre Dame des Glaciers chapel towards the Refuge du Chatelleret and on to the Plat des Etançons. Just after the Bonnepierre mountain stream, turn right into the Bonnepierre Valley. The path climbs steeply up to the glacial moraine and continues via switchbacks up the moraine to the bivouac area at 2944 m. Be careful as the path is on the ridge of the moraine, with impressive views over the glacier.
