As soon as the fine weather arrives, Bourg-d'Oisans emerges from its winter sleepiness. The market overflows with produce from all over the region and the
streets come back to life.

About : A stroll through the Bourg (Circuit n°1)

Walk towards the church on the road that leads out to Villard-Notre-Dame and to the mineral museum that is just next to it.
Remember that visitors to Oisans who
don’t take a look at the Mineral and Alpine wildlife museum… haven’t seen anything. Do you think we’re exaggerating? Not at all! You will be forced to admit that the abundance of the collection is truly amazing. Rare and extinct animals are all on display in a particularly life-like exhibition. Alpine mineral enthusiasts will be in heaven as the museum houses the most beautiful exhibits in the world and of outstanding quality. In the summer, the museum and the geology centre organise free guided visits and guided outings. Ask for information at the museum.

As you leave, stop off at the Atelier 45 Ceramic to discover Stéphane’s enamelled stoneware designs (tableware and ornaments) or attend a demonstration of throwing or garnishing techniques.

You can keep going towards the town center until you reach the Rue Gambetta where you can explore the Écrins National Park Visitors Centre. This is a mine of
information and documentation on the Écrins Park, the life of the inhabitants of Oisans, as well as the local flora and fauna. You can chat with the park wardens or join a guided outing. This is a place not to be missed by those who enjoy or want to know more about life in the mountains.

Make your way towards the village centre, turning left and then right as you come out of the Visitors Centre, and stroll through the lively, traffic free lanes. Why not stop to visit the "Bicicletta" workshop.
Laurent Amettler, will take you on a trip back through time. Welcoming you into his workshop full of vintage bicycles, he will explain to you the different stages of restoration, from purchasing through to customizing.

A little further in Bourg-d'Oisans you can also discover Formes and Passion, a fretwork workshop held by Marcel who creates unique items cut and sculpted from solid wood.
