A temporary exhibition retraces the history of this legendary road in the Oisans region, which still surprises many tourists who travel along it in this majestic mountain setting.

About : Exhibition: 100 years on the Bérarde road

"The last section of the Vénéon valley path has just been opened to traffic, the work conceived by the Touring Club de France is finally accomplished, and the automobile can lead the Alpe enthusiasts to the famous hamlet of La Bérarde, centre of all excursions in the Ecrins-Pelvoux massif, whereas until now tourists leaving the cars at Saint-Christophe en Oisans had to walk or mule the last twelve kilometres along a bad and narrow path, sometimes climbing 25 and even 30%".
The project was carried out in sections: in 1913 traffic was opened up to the hamlet of Champhorent, and work began on the Champhorent to Les Etages section. The war interrupted the work, which was not resumed until 1920. At the end of July 1921, the first car could reach La Bérarde.
