Home Demonstration : Processing the wool
Marie and Timothée are farmers/shepherds based in Vaujany. Marie welcomes you to La Bergerie to tell you about the different aspects of their trade and how wool is produced, from shearing the sheep to the finished product.
"We are shepherds/farmers/producers of Merinos wool and grass fed lamb. Our flock of 200 ewes spends the winter in the sheepfold in Vaujany and the summer in the Oisans mountain pastures."
Since 2013, the fleeces have been sorted by the shepherds, turned into incredibly soft, fine wool and sold in balls. Our products are on sale in our little chalet on the farm - made from locally produced 100% pure Mérinos wool!
Marie and Timothée organize this event as part of the “Oisans Route des savoir-faire”. This "Route" brings together all the artisans, artists, producers and cultural sites of Oisans that are willing to open the doors of their workshop, farm or museum to share knowledge with the general public. The “Oisans Route des savoir-faire” opens the door to Oisans mountain culture, the richness of its heritage and the many facets of local expertise. Following the winding roads, you will be able to enjoy varied scenery and meet vibrant local characters. Above all, you are sure to appreciate the quality of their work and a taste of their produce!
From 01/10 to 30/06, daily.
Free of charge.
Access: On the road up to Vaujany, the farm is located on the second bend after the «Pourchery» sign.
